I can identify with the rural teachers. I know what it is like to have to teach a concept that the textbook does not spell out. A teacher has to rely on his or her passed experiences in order to design a new lesson plan. The ministry of education is demanding that teachers be creative, but creativity is simply pulling old ideas or concepts out from one's memory and putting them together in a new way. If rural teachers have only taught students to memorize, and if they themselves were only taught to memorize, how are the teachers suppose to be creative when the only ideas in their memory bank is memorization?!

Once the learning curve is passed, a teacher can then recycle the lesson plan and activity in future years. (But to think about how much time and meeting was used just behind one lesson...) Without collaboration, I think it is not hard to understand how the teacher would quite on being creative. There are a lot of principles behind this particular instance that I am studying for my Master's of Education. When I read stories like this, it is like seeing an example of what I am discussing in my Master's courses. RCEF is doing a good job.
