First and second graders face off to tell each other stories

Ms. Wang is the first grade Chinese teacher. She likes to tell stories to students. Here is a blog post she wrote:

Young faces, rising voices, enthusiastic hand movements. All of these show their happy and enriched childhoods, increased interest in reading, and improved speaking and presentation skills.

  • A childhood without reading is a dry one.
  • A childhood without stories is not full.

Although most children have few opportunities to enjoy reading before they come to our school, once they’re here, we work hard to make sure their childhood is filled with splendor.

Over the past semester, I’ve read and told stories to the children. I have experienced deeply the mysterious power of stories, the power of children’s imaginations, and their excellent memories. “Every Child is Smart” –we just have a lot more to do.
